Akon Live in Concert!! - Cape Town

Konvicttt music!!! - okk..that probably wasn't the best thing to scream nearing a security checkpoint entering the venue.. but on 5th June 2010, Grand West, Cape Town, South Africa you could be forgiven for this type of behaviour. You could feel the excitement building - something special was about to go down..
Opening act - Da les & Ishmael from Jozi!!



next came out Jamali!!



then it was time for welcome someone all the way from Detroit, USA - Trick Trick..



He began with It's Goin' Down.. but midway he stopped.. "hold up.. hold up.. these people paid money for this.. sort ur sh*t out".. while the sound guyz sounded out their sound problems Trick Trick jumped off the stage & started chatting to the crowd.. Then he started again.. the crowd going crazzy for "Welcome to Detriot"..
the finally.. it was time for the person everyone came to see!!
the chants began - Akon!! Akon!! Akon!!




A mini movie began & then out of the big screen out jumps Akon!! Pyrotechnics filled up the stage.. I can't remember the first song.. hmm.. probably because I didn't really hear it as everyone was still screaming.. 2nd song - I'm so paid.. my fav!!
Everyone had their hands in the air for this one!!



He then did a few others including "Sorry, Blame it on me", "Sweetest Girl", "We don't care", "I wanna love u" (Although the crowd was singing a different version of the lyrics for this song - lol)..

He then told the crowd the reason why he wasn't performing at the Soccer World Cup opening - "Oh Africa" was done for Pepsi so that Pepsi could donate money to Africa. Since Coca Cola is the official sponsor of the World Cup he was not allowed to perform.. crazy.. but he said.. i'm going to kick off the world cup 1 week early.. let's do this..



In the background the "Oh Africa" beat started.. loads of soccer from backstage came out & he started kicking it into the crowd.He even managed to kick a few into the upper tier of the Arena! Benni McCarthy (SA soccer player) was also in the crowd! probably looking in awe at Akon's skills.. and No..I didn't manage to see the women he brought to the concert (1 of the reasons he got axed from the side).



1 hour 30 minutes had passed.. then Akon says we just getting started & we about to turn this place into a club!! Are u ready??? DJ Benni (no relation to the soccer player) laid down some tracks to get the crowd into the mood (Usher - OMG, Black eyed Peas - I got a feeling & he even did his research as he played "Make the circle bigggger").. Akon then came out in an inflatable ball!! He then went into the crowd in the ball - while still rapping!! The crowd went crazy!!!!



he then went back on stage.. got out of the ball & then did a stage dive!! crazzzy!!



He then rapped in the crowd.. shaking hands with those in front.. & yes, he did grab my hand..& yes, u could practically feel all the women lambos he has driven b4.. lol..


he then did Sexy chick as coloured confetti began falling onto the crowd from the top..magical!! even the people in seats on the top tier got off their seats & started to party!!


he then followed up with a few songs from other artists he collaborated wit - "David Guetta - One Love", Lady Gaga - "Let's Dance", & Gwen Stefani - The sweet escape.. he then made his way back on stage & then finally backstage as the crowd screamed in appreciation for one of the most amazing concerts they have surely just witnessed.
